30 Days of Me - Day 9

Something You Are Proud Of In The Last Few Days

I love to knit hats. I especially love to knit hats for babies and kids. I started knitting a baby blanket for Leyton before he was born but had horrible pregnancy brain and couldn't keep count in the pattern so I gave up. Then my pregnancy carpal tunnel started and I thought I would never knit again. The wrists have been feeling better and with some cool days I was in the mood to knit!

My girlfriend Kate's baby Getty is a little Owl. She has those big eyes and just a cute little owlie face. I started looking for owl hats and found a great one on Ravelry. In just a few days the hat is complete and seriously be careful because the cuteness might give you a slight heart attack! What is also very cute is the dog snout to the right..if there is a blanket on the ground, Whisky is there.

I can't wait to see what it looks like on Getty and will get a picture and post it on here later today. For not knitting in a while I'm proud of my work. It's so much fun to do these theme hats. If anyone out there finds a hat they want made, hit me up...I'm definitely available for requests!

Dear Mirena

Dear Mirena,

I met you before I had Leyton. You were there at a time when I didn't want to have children. You were a bit painful at first, but in just a short time we were the best of friends. Then I decided that I wanted to have a baby and I got rid of you. I got pregnant right away and was so thankful that you did what you were supposed to do and then my body did what it was supposed to do once you were gone. Now...I want you back. Problem is Mirena, my insurance won't cover you and I can't afford you. I know, you pay for yourself in a year or two...but that's a serious chunk of change to come up with up front. So Mirena, if you'd like to come back on your own please do so. I will promote the heck out of you, paste you all over my blog and facebook and tell all my friends about how wonderful you are. Please Mirena, please come back. I need you and miss you.

Love always and your biggest fan,
Stacey Ball and her lady parts

30 Days of Me - Day 8

Short Term Goals For This Month and Why

Seeing how the month ends tomorrow, this is obviously for September!

1. Get a tattoo in tribute to my baby. I have one for my mom, I have one for my hubby...it only makes sense that the kiddo gets one too. It will be adorable, I promise.

2. Finalize details on an upcoming craft fair that I'm throwing to raise money for Getty Storm. You'll know a whole bunch more about Getty by the end of this week. If you are a local crafter and want to attend, email me for details!

3. Finalize Getty's website.

That's all I have right now. My big focuses are working on stuff for Getty. I don't want to tell the full story yet since we still have some details to work out. I've attached a picture though so you know how perfectly beautiful this little girl is. I die every time I see her eyes.

Don't tell a lie!

I met my girlfriend Sprout at the Just for Friends consignment sale that they were holding at the convention center. It was basically a big yard sale of kids items. I found some cute clothes, but alot of the stuff was way overpriced. Then I spotted this old toy and I had to have it for Leyton's room. It sits about 8" tall, is solid wood and was only $5. I think based on a sticker it is from Germany. I totally love how it looks on his shelf!

30 Days of Me - Day 7

A Picture of Someone That Has The Biggest Impact On You
How could it not be my baby? He has completely changed my life. I always heard parents say that but it is truly amazing how different you become once you are a parent. Everything is about this guy. I would do anything to make him happy and anything to keep him safe. He is the center of my universe. I am madly, deeply and truly in love.

Saturday, August 28, 2010

You asked for it....

I got a couple requests for pics of the "freaky finger." Here you go! When I got home with Leyton it was one of the first things I checked for. He, like all others I know, only have three sections on all his fingers. I'm just freaky that way!

30 Days of Me - Day 6

Favorite Super Hero and Why

This was a tough one cause I have to say that I've never been a huge super hero fan. I like Batman cause he's sexy, I like the Hulk cause he's green. Then it struck me. This was by far my favorite super hero growing up. Maybe it is the curly hair? Maybe because he was a complete goofball? Maybe because the shows theme song kicked ass. Either way...The Great American Hero all the way!

30 Days of Me - Day 5

A Picture of Somewhere You've Been To

There you have it. The places I've been. I've only been to two countries outside of the US....Australia and Mexico. It's pretty boring really. I've missed alot of the United States. I wish I had traveled more when I was younger, it's my one regret.

30 Days of Me - Day Four

A Habit That You Wish You Didn't Have
I'm a rambler. I get it from my mom, sorry mom. Sometimes when I get going talking I can't stop. Not only can I not stop, but I can sometimes take the conversation in so many different directions I don't even know where I started. My mom is worse, sorry mom. When she and I get on the phone I think if there was someone listening in they would be so confused by the end of it and just be left to wonder..."What the hell were they talking about?"

I'm sure from the picture you thought that my bad habit was forgetting to wear pants didn't you? See, I have this other bad habit or obsession where I HAVE to put a picture with every post. Sometimes I have some of my own and sometimes I go into the world wide web to find one...typically through a Google image search. Sometimes I get a good laugh at what pictures come up. This picture was the result of searching the word "Rambling." Go figure.

30 Days of Me - Day Three

A Picture of You and Your Friends

Wow, this was a tough one. It is so rare to have a picture that we are all in together. Most pictures I was just with one of these ladies. I had to dig back to my bridal shower. In this photo we have from left to right...

Kristi: I've known Kristi since Junior High. We don't see each other as much now as we did many years ago. It makes me sad when I think about it.

Becki: I met RP at Java City. She is the most creative friend that I have. Her talent amazes me. She also has been known to be a killer drummer on the Guitar Hero.

Wendy: I've known Wendy since highschool. She broke her arm and I got the class to pitch money in to get her flowers. She lived right around the corner from me and I delivered them to her. My life was never the same.

Kim: Little Sprout. We've also known each other since Junior High but I honestly feel like I've known Kimmie forever. We can go years without talking and will pick up like we just chatted yesterday. Luckily it's been a long time since I've had to go years before I talked to her.

30 Days of Me - Day 2

The Meaning Behind Your Blog Name

Oh goodness. I wonder how many of you have sat down and thought "what the heck does Pill's Place mean anyway?" Yep, all 5 of you that read my blog are just sitting there rubbing your temples right now. So, here is the answer my fine friends.

I have a husband that likes nicknames. In the list of friends there is a pisspants, an anus, a turkey legs, a canned hammy, a peanut and even a guy named Del whose name isn't even Del yet that is what everyone calls him. Many many years ago I once sat at a table full of my husband's buddies. Guys I had known at that point for at least 3 years. There were a couple of girls from Korea there with us and they turned to me and asked me to tell them every ones name. I sat there stupified because I hadn't a clue what half of their real names were. That's a true story my friends.

So, when the hubby and I started dating my first nickname was Spaghetti. Shortly there after everyone called me Ladybug, which quickly became Bug. Many still call me Bug. The hubby would laugh at me whenever I would go to bed because I would curl up like a little "pillbug." I had no idea what the heck he was talking about. Then I realized he was talking about what I knew as a rolley polley. From there the name evolved somehow into Pillworm. I was Pillworm for YEARS and even had it on my license plate at one point. During that time "Pill's Place" was born. I don't have that nickname anymore, but it was always my favorite and so the website will forever stay!

30 Days of Me

I'm hitting bloggers block. I find that right now it's harder to blog with the baby. First, all I want to tell you about is the baby. Second, there's not much else to tell you because all I'm doing is hanging out with the baby! I don't really want it to become a baby blog, but I know that it is heavy with baby info right now. I know it will grow and change, but I thought I'd do something to distract a bit. JaymiPop is doing the 30 Days of Me. I thought I'd give it a try. It will give me something to focus on and give some variance to the blog. I mean, if it can't be about the baby...it might as well be all about me!

Day One: A recent picture of yourself and 15 interesting facts.
1. I missed my calling as an event planner. It's something I now know that I should have started doing years ago. I love hosting dinners and planning big events. No matter how hard, frustrating and annoying it can be...when the event is finally done I get a thrill like none other.

2. I have a crazy phobia of rest stops. I stopped at one on the last vacation and while the hubby was in the restroom I spent a good amount of time figuring out what was happening to him in there and how long before I should go running into the street to flag down help. It was then that I realized I had a problem.

3. I like scary movies. Maybe that's why I have phobia number 2! I get annoyed by the slasher film just to be gory. I like something that is truly scary and chills you to the bone. I saw the Blair Witch Project the day it hit the indie theaters, before everyone knew that it wasn't real footage. It was the scariest thing I had ever seen at that time.

4. I broke my neck when I was 10. I was a clutz as a kid and joined a swim team because it was safe. Who knew that diving off a block into 3 1/2 foot deep water wasn't actually safe?

5. I got my first tattoo when I was 18, I wanted it when I was 15. If I had the guts I would actually have a sleeve on one arm. I will never do it. I'm only getting one more (or so I tell myself.) It will be revealed later.

6. If I could buy my dream car it would be a late 60's, early 70's Ford Bronco, removable hard top, painted orange.

7. I only want one baby. There was a time I always thought I had to have two. Now that I'm older I am very comfortable having just Leyton. I was an only child myself and I turned out fine. Maybe if I had started earlier I would have had more. It's weird how that sentence can make you feel guilty, "I only want one baby." Why is there so much pressure to have more than one, why can't one be enough?

8. When I retire I want to be a crosswalk guard at an elementary school. I smile whenever I see one. I will be proud to wear an orange vest.

9. I miss crafting. I'm trying to knit right now in the evenings when Leyton goes to bed. It's a little tough on the wrists but makes me feel good. I want to paint some more and would also love to get involved in ceramics at some point, but I know that will involve a class.

10. I miss the east coast. If it wasn't for meeting the hubby I think I would have moved back. I haven't set foot in Boston since I moved away and I dream about going there for a visit all the time.

11. I would move to Washington tomorrow if the hubby would agree. To be honest I don't even ask. His folks are here and he helps them alot. Plus the man has been at his job for over 18 years or something crazy like that. He's not a big "changer." I am, so whenever he is ready to pack up I will load up boxes.

12. I could eat some form of Mexican food every day of the week. I love everything about it.

13. While I don't want another baby, I miss being pregnant. Only at certain stages. I never felt more comfortable in my body and sexy. I loved feeling the baby swim around and sometimes think I feel it, then realize it's only indigestion!

14. I love my hubby's family almost as much as I love him. I've never met a group of more wonderful people. His parents have been married for over 50 years. There are six kids total, all married and no divorce. There are 11 grandchildren, all great kids. I could spend months with them and never wish for some alone time. I feel so blessed and lucky to be a part of the bunch. I never knew it could be so good.

15. Turn your hand over, palm up, and count the segments on your finger. I'm sure you have three. On my pinkie there are four. I once had a palm reader tell me that it was the hand of a healer. If that were the case you think maybe I wouldn't hurt myself so much!

Bath tubs suck!

The other item I have struggled with in the baby department.....bath tubs. The first tub I got, I got because it was cute and it collapsed and got big. It also leaked....all over the damn place. So much for "growing with the baby." The second tub I got worked fine, for a month and then was too small. Tub manufacturers need to realize that people have big long babies. There is this divide between the newborn infant tub and the tub made for a baby that can sit up. Well what if your baby is big, but can't sit up yet? Where are your tubs?

For my third tub purchase I read reviews. A ton of them. The overall opinion is that tubs suck. I went with the one that had the best reviews. I also went with one that is CHEAP. It is for babies that can sit up but because of it's shape it works for Leyton..and he loves it.
Plus, it is seriously adorable and quacks!

Wait a darn minute!

What he hell has been happening to my feet?! It took talking to my friend Judy today to realize...I've had some serious foot issues in the past year. Let's recap shall we. First we had an ingrown toenail. An ingrown toenail that had to be surgically removed twice. An ingrown toenail that was treated with medicine to make it never grow back again. An ingrown toenail that is STILL THERE PEOPLE!

Next up...fat feet. Remember them, all squishy, painful and warm? You saw them coming and pretty much ran for safety. Shoes were unavailable and instead the stylish box was worn around town. Everyone said, "It'll get better after you have the baby." Know what...it got worse. Only for about two weeks though, then you returned to normal size and we became friends again.

Finally, busted toe. Busted toe that since this picture is now turning the top of my foot purple.

What the hell man? Am I being punished for poor toenail color selections? Pretty soon I'm going to be accosted by What Not to Wear simply because I can only wear flip flops everyday at the office.

Oh No Toe!

You would think that I take really extreme vacations considering that I always seem to come home hurt from them wouldn't you? Well unless Extreme Beach Walking and Extreme Stair Falling Down is considered then we just call me a clutz and be on with it.

Yes, I got hurt on our vacation. Thankfully this time I did it right and got hurt on the day we were leaving instead of the day we arrived! There were stairs in the cabin and while I've stayed at this place 4 times, it seemed that this time the stairs were different. I'm happy to say I was not the only one to fall...I was just the only one who got hurt. The stair rail ends and there is still one step left before you get to the landing. This kind of gives you a false sense that you are on the last step so it becomes easy to miss the last one or step right on the edge of it. I was going downstairs, in the dark (genius I know) to get the laundry in the drier. I missed the last step and fell directly on my knees.

My first thought was "Oh shit, my knee!" Then I realized that my knee didn't hurt at all but my back was spasming so bad I could barely stand straight. I slowly climbed back up the stairs to lie on the bed. Instantly the back felt better and it dawned on me the terrible pain that was coming from my toe area. An x-ray when we got home revealed that the toe is busted. Almost cracked a bone completely in half. Healing is just simply buddy taping for 4-6 weeks and "trying" to take it easy. I'm not sure if I'm more upset by the toe breaking or the fact that I didn't get a pedicure before it happened and still have two month old blue polish on!Can't wait to take my next vacation!

It's a Wrap!

Leyton is the kind of kiddo that needs a swaddle. He's crazy with his arms and legs and can't settle down. Once he is swaddled he falls right asleep, sometimes even during the swaddle! Now that he's bigger swaddling has become a challenge and I've pretty much used every swaddler out there so I thought I would go ahead and give you a couple reviews.

The first swaddle wrap we used was the Kiddopotamus. At the beginning this was a great option. Unfortunately in sizing there is a huge flaw. The sizing is small/medium and then large. Leyton grew too long for the small/medium combo size but when we moved him to the large it was enormous...literally swimming on him! He got his arms out the bottom one night and I woke up to him with so much fabric around his neck it was scary.

We then moved onto the Woombie. I went ahead and got the Lil Houdini version because Leyton knows how to bust out of things. After using the Woombie I wish it was something I used from the start. It allows the child to move their arms some. Unfortunately Leyton was so used to NOT moving his arms that when he was given the extra wiggle space all he would do is wiggle in it so we were unable to use it.

Next up, the Halo Sleep Sack w/ Swaddle blanket. This worked twice. Then it was washed. After washing Leyton was able to get his arms out of the bottom and again pull all the fabric up to his neck...even with the extra little velcro straps that are supposed to keep this from happening.

Now I'm too afraid to use much of anything for fear he is going to suffocate himself in the night. So, we are falling back on an old naptime favorite. The Pure Baby swaddle blanket. These are great lightweight blankets that are ENORMOUS squares. I've always used them for naps because he never busts out of them in a nap. At night though he starts to wiggle and eventually breaks free. We're using these at night and when he breaks free I just let him deal with it. It seems to be working and I'm hoping soon enough I won't have to swaddle at all.

I definitely feel there is a huge flaw in almost all of these swaddle options. It's the fact that the bottom part doesn't enclose the hands and if the child's arms are long they will get them out of the bottom and then lift up. This puts a bunch of fabric at the child's neck...which can't be safe.

I'm soo looking forward to the day when we don't have to swaddle.

A Leyton Lovely

Today was the Truckee Farmer's Market and Street Fair. We went down to take a peek, more for the handmade items than anything else. There were some cute things and then I found the booth for La La Design Studios. Her lotus necklaces and earrings were to die for and I figured I would walk away with one. Then I saw the sign that she did custom name necklaces. Since I know that Leyton isn't a name I'm going to find on things I knew instantly that I wanted one. In less than 15 minutes the designer Lauren made one for me.I will be wearing it everyday and when I go back to work it will be a little piece of him that I will always have with me!! Thanks Lauren!

Lesson Learned

If you are stupid enough to be in the mountains and leave a bag of trash on the porch because you are too lazy to walk it to the trash can, then you deserve to have your cooler biten by a bear and thrown down a flight of stairs.
Now you know.

The Deadliest Catch

I apparently have been watching too much Deadliest Catch because when I caught wind that there was a crawdad trap I was all over it and determined to catch some crawdads. Not only that but I was going to catch em, process em, cook em and clean em. I left the trap out for two days and caught a whopping 59 crawdads.

I then did all the steps necessary to get all the meat out and only ended up with about a cup of meat! It was hard work, but I'm certain if Sig needs another member on his team that I am now armed and ready!

Hot Tubbin

Not only does the cabin have a deck that goes directly out to the water, but it also has a hot tub. The tub is only about 95 degrees so I thought it would be perfect time to see how Leyton likes the water. He absolutely loved it. He stared at it and splashed around. We will definitely be taking more hot tub trips!

Donner or Bust!

The vacation of all time is upon us! We have a gorgeous cabin on Donner Lake for an ENTIRE WEEK with the Ball family. I'm so excited for Leyton to meet a bunch of his nieces, nephews, aunties and uncles! He seems to be settling in nicely and already scored a new hat for the chilly mornings when we got sit on the dock.
You can't tell by his face, but we could not be happier!

Dog Bed?

Somebody finally figured out what the co-sleeper is all about. Now if only he could get his paws on that bottle.

Letter to Boo Boo

Boo Boo,

Today I came to the office to work for a bit. It’s the second time I’ve taken you to daycare and it’s even harder for me than the first. All I want to do is cry. I’m sitting here at my desk and all I want to do is run back to you.

At times with you I have felt soo overwhelmed and tired. You can sometimes be a fussy boy and I just don’t know what to do for you to make you happy. Yet now, I would trade a day of peace and quiet at the office for a day of fussiness with you.

I’m going to miss watching you cover your face with your blankie. I’m going to miss listening to your dreaming laughs and wimpers. I’m going to miss our naps. What’s even scarier are all of the things I’m going to miss that I don’t even know you do yet. Someone else is going to get to share your firsts with you. That kills me.

I hope at your little age you know that no one loves you like I do. You are my every thing. When you were born every ounce of my being went into being your mommy. I want nothing else more in the world than to see you smile. I will miss you beyond belief.

Your Mommy

Wednesday, August 04, 2010

Leyton started sleeping, when he's not swaddled that is, with a blanket in his arms. He basically looked like Linus with his little blue blankie. The main reason for the blanket was it gave him something to hold onto so he wouldn't claw at his face or swing his arms wildly. Recently Leyton has taken the blanket to a whole new level. He loves to cover his face with it and go to sleep. If I move it, 5 minutes later it is right back where it started. With all the frightening stuff you read about SIDS and every warning about NO BLANKETS it makes me have a little heart attack. I'm starting to relax though and letting him just chill there with his blanket covered head. I just usually pop it away a bit to give a little breathing room!

Lil Poindexter

Today Leyton went in for some pictures and oh man....it's become abundantly clear that he hates the picture place. He fusses, he gripes, he cries. At home photos he's as happy as a clam...in the studio...hates every moment of it. I must say though that today the photographers sucked too so I can't blame him. I was certain there wouldn't be a single good shot...and then this one appeared.Holy heck that is the cutest thing I've ever seen. He's wearing a onesie by Ana Apple Designs. It was a little big for him but I wanted to try and get a shot before it was too small. Hence, the tie is tucked into his shorts making him look like an even bigger nerd. All he needs is a pocket protector. He's going to hate me later in life for this isn't he?

Gimme Five

With a Mom that is 5'10", a Dad that is 6'1" and hands like these.....

How do you not end up a basketball player?

Sunday, August 01, 2010

Today Leyton met one of his new buddies. Myles was very eager to hold Leyton and just a little disappointed that Leyton couldn't play tennis or football with him yet!
