Happy New Year!

Tis the night before 2011 and all through the house,
my wee beast is stirring with drool coming out of his mouth.
The teething tablets sit in the cabinet with care,
in hopes I won't have to listen to screams in my ear.
The dog is sitting with his bark collar on
which doesn't stop one bark when someone walks past our lawn.
And Mr. Ball in his running gear, and I in my sweats,
Do you think we're going out? I'll let you place bets.
When out of my child's nose there arose such a riot,
since drooling wasn't enough we now have a river of snot!
Away to the kiddo I run with a wipe,
so I can clean off that soaking wet face with a swipe.
When what to my wondering eyes should I see,
two pearly white things....I think we have teeth!
Sharper than razors they come out of his gums,
I sure hope that Orajel makes it go numb!
Then suddenly a rumbling sound in his gut,
and with a scrunched up red face it comes right out his butt.
I sit back and think that just 8 months ago,
I had not a single clue this was how my New Years would go.
Poopy butts, snotty noses and a river of drool?
Can I pray that teething season will only give us two?
Then a smile comes across my little guys mug
and all I can do is want to give him a hug.
And a realize that this is as good as it gets
and 2010 might just be the best year yet!
Because even if we end it with terrible teething pain,
Mama can drown it all after bedtime with her bottle of champagne!!

Happy 2011 Everyone!!!

Shopping Cart

Today was Leyton's first ride in a shopping cart! He absolutely loved it and the devious look in his eye matched mine exactly as I was looking down the aisle of wonderful shoes. Sadly, I left with none and my devious look turned to sadness.

My world just got a whole lot easier!

I am now the proud owner of this! It has easily cut the baby food making time in at least half. The power, the quiet sound.....oh man I can't even begin to describe how much I love this item. I will blend everything now.

Merry Christmas!

The first Christmas with the baby! I can't say he really had a clue what was going on, but he was super excited to discover some Nascar pajamas in the first box he opened.
And Whisky was very happy to receive a new toy in his stocking!
Hope every one had a wonderful holiday!

For Christmas Eve the hubby and I had the night to ourselves with our little dude. We decided to make some burgers and pulled out the Rachael Ray cookbooks. While she can be a tad annoying on her shows, this woman knows how to cook and she knows how to make a tasty burger. My favorite part of her burgers is she puts together items that you would never think to put together. Each time we make one we try to find the most obscure one we can find and give it a try. This recipe was out of her "365 No Repeats" cookbook and it was called the Jambalaya Burger with a corn/bean salad. Oh lord help me it was yummy! Everything about it was absolutely perfect. I wish I could share the recipe with you but unfortunately it's not on her site so I guess you'll have to buy the book or just look at the picture and imagine what it might taste like.

Someone is officially teething! There was a sighting of two white spots in the mouth a couple weeks ago and now we have a full on oval and all the crankiness that goes with it. It is only fitting that Leyton has Grinch pajamas for the holidays.

Things you should know about me if we're gonna be BFF's.

I saw this on Mama and the Dudes and Little Miss Momma today and thought it was cute and wanted to be part of it!

Some things you should know about me if we are going to be BFF's.

I only have to hear a song 2-3 times to know the lyrics and it will stay in my brain for the rest of my life. Song lyrics is taking up a lot of brain space.

I absolutely love Diet Dr. Pepper and while I have given it up many times it is again a vice that I want every morning.

My initials SLB are also the first letters in the names of my family: Stacey, Leyton and Bill

I never knew my real grandfathers and secretly think that my Mom's father is the best looking man I have ever seen.
I wanted to name my first dog Barry Manilow around the same time I thought I was Crystal Gale and would marry Eddie Rabbit.

There was a time in my life that over a 12 year period my toenails were never unpolished unless it was to change the polish.

This is my dream car, no lie. It would be the first thing I would buy if I won the lottery.
I could eat some form of Mexican food every single day and never tire of it.

I have a phobia of enclosed stairwells and try to avoid them whenever I can. It is part falling down them and part being trapped inside of them and in both situations no one can hear me. If they are walled in brick/concrete with metal stairs it is EVEN WORSE!

I literally want to kill people that piss on a toilet seat in a public restroom and don't wipe it up. If you feel the need to hover so your delicate ass can stay clean then wipe up after your damn self.

I was a swimmer for most of my life and to this day love being a pool. That said, I do not really care for summer and heat. Guess that is why I needed to be in a pool!

There are times that I like margarine more than butter. I like to think it's because I am a child of the 80's.

I hope that at some point in my life I can go to a taping of "The Price is Right" with my Dad.

If I could have any type of surgery I would have my boobs made smaller. While I would love my whole body smaller I feel like nothing would make me happier than little boobs. I've had them too so it's not just wanting something I've never had. I've had big, I've had little....little are better.

I absolutely hate making New Years resolutions because I don't think anyone ever keeps them. I have decided instead to make a life resolution which I will reveal on here in January. I'm scared, but I'm just going to put all that shit out there and deal with it.

The Christmas Card!

As you know I was trying to get a funny photo for the Christmas card this year. Typically the hubby and I don't send out very serious cards and now that we have a kiddo I knew we could have some fun with it. While I loved the mustache family photo...I took a photo the next day and after I bit of tweaking I just knew that it had Christmas card written all over it. So this year, since they are all mailed out, I am pleased to present you with the Christmas card of our two kiddos.
I'm not sure which one of them likes the activity mat more!!

Christmas Update

Well, I am officially 99.9% done with my shopping this year. On a sad note, I made very very few gifts this year, in fact only made stuff for the babies. I did however do ok in the buying homemade department. While I didn't hit 100%...I did hit about 80% and I think that's pretty good! There were just some people that I had a hard time finding gifts for that were handmade and I will readily admit that I was also a bit lazy this year. I can't wait to show you some of the stuff I made the babies, but that will have to happen after the holidays!

I'm sure you are wondering about the photo. As some of you know I like googling for images just to see what I get back because I simply have a hard time posting without a photo. Can you guess what I searched for in order to get the photo???

Does this open in the front or back?

I took Leyton to the doctor this week because I noticed a lump under his nipple. I don't remember it being there before and the advise nurse advised that I go ahead and bring him in. I'm happy to report that they don't think it's a problem. It's either lingering breast tissue, which apparently all babies are born with or it is a cyst. I know a cyst sounds more scary, but I guess they aren't anything to worry about unless it gets bigger or he starts to get sick. So for now, we're a.o.k and realizing that while someone looks adorable in a hospital gown....I hope it's not something he has to wear very often!

Prunes, Prunes, The Musical Fruit....

Someone tried prunes for the first time and loved every minute of them. I was a little scared myself but I am happy to say the prunes were messier going in than they were coming out!

Santa Claus!

I had to take Leyton for his first visit with Santa. I was a little afraid of going to the mall so I opted for a smaller scale Santa in a little shopping center in town. Of course, I was unsure how he would take Santa. I put him in Santa's lap and he immediately looked up at him trying to figure out what this guy was all about. Then he gave a big smile and voila.....perfect Santa photo!!

7 Months Old!

Today Leyton is 7 months old. I was hoping we would get a picture showing that he is sitting up on his own now and I couldn't be happier how things came out. I take a bunch of photos of him in the chair, but I do not mess with him or move him at all....I just let him do what he wants. Luckily he is a total camera ham so as soon as he sees the first flickers of the flash he is posing like a supermodel. I think it looks like he has slimmed out some, but it could be the way he is sitting. This past month though he has shifted to more solid foods and the bottles have cut back some. He's still my little chunker though!

Hoot Hoot!

Santa Claus came early this year and got me the most incredible rain boots! I am now praying for rain everyday so I can puddle jump with the best of them!

Just to reemphasize the fact that I lost a TON of hair after my pregnancy...I would like to show you my new bangs. Well to be honest this just goes to show how much of a receding hairline I was developing. I have this on both sides and then thinner regrowth all around the frame of my face. I am so thankful that it is not still falling out or I would most definitely be bald.

Get on your knees!

And just like that, Leyton is on his knees. He's not going anywhere yet, except for the times when he completely lunges forward...which is pretty funny! I tried getting it on video but of course he wouldn't perform for the camera. Man, it's so fun to see all the little firsts. I feel like we have had a lot of them this month!

Oh Kohls

I got a card in the mail for $10 at Kohls with no strings attached. I rarely go to Kohls and it is likely that I avoid it because I always find cute stuff. I went in looking for a Christmas gift, which I didn't find...and instead found a bunch of stuff I didn't need.

First, Hallmark released some vintage Fisher Price toy ornaments this year and you know I love me some vintage Fisher Price! I got the plane and the school house. Man, I really need to get my hands on one of those planes in full size!

Next up...oh deer! I keep seeing deer themed stuff around and I like it but it always comes with a hefty price ticket. This was on sale 70% off which made it $14!!! I added it to my photo table. I want to put something different on him each season to make him fit in. I actually thought about giving this guy as a gift and the hubby said NO WAY, he wanted him in our house. Too cute.

Thanks Gary!

Gary Rith is a pottery extraordinaire! I found him a while back through Bossy's site and immediately asked him to make me a piece, back then it was a big old piggy bank and I love it still to this day. I knew this year that I wanted to get a couple Christmas gifts from Gary. The good thing with Gary is he has an assortment of stuff you can buy already made or you can ask him for something custom. He doesn't charge outrageous prices, he will tell you honestly if he doesn't think he can do something and for gosh sakes the man cooks and lives in a purple house with his beautiful wife!

I can't show you all the things I got from Gary because it would ruin the surprise, but I will show you what I got the hubby. He hasn't caught onto the big blog won't even find him on Facebook unless it's in a sneaky picture I put up there :o) If he does read this, then B...this is one of your Christmas gifts....act surprised when you unwrap it ok?

I asked Gary to make some Whisky tumblers with our yellow lab Whisky on them! He didn't get his name because we like drinking water so I knew it would be a perfect gift. Thanks so much Gary! Oh, and you....the one reading this....why don't you go and buy some stuff from Gary. Well, unless you reading this is Gary because I know you read this and buying some stuff from yourself would just be silly.

I grew this last night......

A couple months back I purchased a Groupon deal for a photography session with Eleakis and Elder. I hadn't heard of them before but it was a great deal and worth a shot for some family photos. I wanted to try and get a good and funny photo for our Christmas card. Since we don't love taking the typical family photos we went ahead and tried something a bit different.

The photo session went great, Roger did a wonderful job and I absolutely loved the pictures. When I called to order the pictures the studio asked a favor of me and I could not say no. I went today to check it out at their studio when I picked up my pictures.Do you see it? I would hope so because it is hard to miss! They wanted to use my FAVORITE picture from the session as their front window display. I mean, how awesome is that?! Leyton could not look any cuter than he does with his mustache. He is so serious as if to say that he just grew that last night, why are you looking at him so weirdly?

Must have been stoned.......

The first time I went to New York was quite a frightening experience. I was 17 years old and traveling on a train from Connecticut to New York to meet up with my mom. I was told repetitively by my then boyfriend's sister that it was a good thing I was traveling into Penn Station because Grand Central was just to big and scary. Half way to my destination I found out that I was actually going to Grand Central....and yet my mom was going to be at Penn Station to pick me up. I knew that was it for me and that I would wind up stabbed by a bunch of young gangsters that would just know I was alone and afraid and didn't belong there. I mean, that's the impression that we had of New Yorkers on the West Coast. They were mean, unfriendly and probably all carried a weapon.

Needless to say, when I arrived the family was one step ahead of me and already there waiting. I was relieved, but still a little frightened of this new place, haggard from lack of sleep and the stressful train trip. I followed my step dad into a bar to meet up with the rest of the party. We stood and had a beverage, a soda for me of course, and then went to leave. I was immediately plowed into by the person behind me and knocked to the ground. Oh great, I thought, the shiv into my gut is probably coming next. Instead though some strong hands grabbed me from behind to help me up and the voice was all full of apologies. Oh and that voice was a voice I knew, an unmistakable gravel deep tone.

It was Eric Roberts. Now, when I got my composure back I simply dusted myself off...thanked him for helping me and off we went. My family encouraged me to go back and get an autograph, but I didn't want to bother him and insisted that we continue on.

The sad part about this story was when I got one knew who Eric Roberts was. Here I had been in contact with someone famous and everyone just looked at me dumb founded when I said the name. Had they never seen "Runaway Train" or "Final Analysis?"

Last night I watched the first two episodes of Celebrity Rehab in which Eric Roberts is a patient. I still think he's pretty sexy and that voice is still the same. What I have sense learned though is that Eric Roberts is addicted to weed. If he doesn't smoke weed, the meanness in him comes out and that is the guy that always gets in fights and gets arrested. Thank heavens that back in 1993, Eric Roberts was stoned and one of the nicest people I came in contact with in New York.

Next time I'll tell you about the next celebrity encounter in New York with Christian Slater...shortly after his arrest for beating the crap out of someone. What is it with me and bad boys in New York?

I used to daydream before I had Leyton about having a little boy. I'm not sure why that is, but I think it's something I've always known. I had no doubts in my mind when I was pregnant that it wasn't a just had to be. I think the only moment that I had doubts was when I knew the baby was out and they were going to tell me!

I absolutely love every moment of my little man. Now, don't get me wrong...I know I would be just as happy with a little girl. For now though, the little boy is perfect. It's like always wanting a pony and one day you wake up and there is a pony with a bow on it just waiting for you. Only, it's even better because eventually we all outgrow our pony and I know I will never outgrow my son.

It's so much fun to play with Leyton now because he interacts and I can tell when he wants me to do something again. He loves to be flung backwards so he is upside down. If he wants me to do it again he rolls his eyes up into his head. He loves when we play "don't drop the baby." That sounds like such a terrible name! Basically I just barely release him and then grab tight so he has the feeling he is falling and for some odd reason he cracks up when I say "Don't drop the baby!"

The best moments though are the snuggles. When he is really tired and just puts his head on my chest and I know that with a little swaying and a little singing he will be fast asleep. We have our song too. When I first heard this song I knew even more that I wanted a boy and I wanted to sing him this song. It's so cliche, but at the same time so very perfect. The first time I heard it after Leyton was born I cried my eyes out because I knew at that moment that all my dreams came true.

Whether you love them our hate them...if you can make it through the first bit of this video you will listen to the song that will always pull at my heart strings and make me think of the wonderful times with my little man.

Oh Christmas Tree....

Today Kate and I drove up to Apple Hill to cut down trees for our family while the hubbies stayed home babysitting. Let's be honest though. The cutting of the tree meant walking around in a sea of trees till we found the perfect one and then we hollered out "cutter" and a strapping young lad came and cut our tree down. Hey, it takes a lot out of you just finding the perfect tree so don't judge!

When I got home the hubby put the tree in the stand and I went to work on lights for the tree while he went to work on lights on the outside. We went all LED this year and I have to say I like the crispness of the lights.

Overall, I still like my thrift store snowman the best!

An Un-Supported Sitter!!!

In the past few weeks Leyton has grown so much. Not only is he now inching his way into 12 month clothing, he is also figuring out how to use his hands. He spends quite a bit of time just staring at them and watching them open and close. He will even mimic me when I do it. This means that he is also grabbing onto things and of course placing them into his mouth. Today it was the straw from my glass!

Another exciting progression....Leyton can sit on his own! I actually think he could have done this a while ago, but he couldn't sit still and always tried to stand. He's still a little wobbly but his balance gets better everyday and you can tell it gives him a whole new vantage point!

Another masterpiece!

It couldn't be a visit from Grandma without the sound of the sewing machine going in the background. Each time she arrives she makes something wonderful that typically gets left behind. Last time it was stuff for the babies room and this time it was a cover for the car seat!

I bought a really nice Britax car seat for our truck which we primarily drive in with Leyton. We still needed another seat for the other car, but I just didn't want to shell out tons of money. So, you can go ahead and give me the lectures, I bought one at a rummage sale. It was in great shape, but the cover was nasty. Since it was going in the car that Bill drives we decided to go with a racing theme. I'm so happy with how it came out and so thankful that I have such a talented mommy!

I'm also very sad because today she leaves. All I can say is.....please come back soon. You don't even have to make anything!

She's gonna kill me for this!

You're probably wondering why I'm posting a picture of a woman in a bra on my blog, I mean it's not even St. Patrick's Day when I typically post the large breasted lady. Well, the said woman in this picture is none other dentist! Yep, this is the person that gives me my pearly whites. I also used to nanny for her many many years ago and for those long time readers she is who gave me Louie my English Bulldog.

Kristina was part of a calendar last year in support of breast cancer and I have had it hanging by my desk, looking at pictures of random strangers in a bra. I was so happy to switch the page and finally get to her picture which I think is the cutest one.

So, if you need a dentist...I highly recommend Kristina! She has a practice in Dixon and it is worth the drive!!

It's Advent Time!

Today is November do you know what tomorrow is? It's Advent Calendar Time on the Carol Browne site! Those of you that were around last year may remember this wonderful event, those that are new....well boy are you going to be happy that you read the post today. Carol gets a Lego Advent Calendar each year and tells a story each day when she unwraps the hidden gems. It's charming, it's hilarious and it's just about the best way to ring in Christmas. This is seriously one of my favorite December traditions and is something I look forward to every year. I can't wait till Leyton is old enough so we can log on together to see what Carol found in her box today! No pressure or anything Carol! So, sit back, relax and get ready for a barrel full of laughs as we count down the days till Christmas with Carol!

Merry Christmas

To say that the hubby and I have really good luck this time of year is like saying that I would enjoy walking through Times Square naked in the dead of winter....which I wouldn't want to do just in case some of you think I might be weird enough. We always have things breaking down or streaks of bad luck. Car repairs, broken appliances, busted electronics. You name it! So, this year is not different. We had some major car repair, and then on the way to pick up said car yours truly ran through a red light. I have never had a ticket before and boy when that red light camera flash went off I was wishing that I had been giving the bird while going through the intersection. I knew I was wrong, but I was in that situation where breaking is going to be fast and hard or just step on it a bit and go through. I obviously picked the wrong option. In California....these tickets are almost $500. What makes it worse, while I still fully admit I was wrong, I was also on a dinky little residential intersection. I feel like these fines should be different levels depending on where you are. Nope, not happening.

Oh, and this Thanksgiving??? I got to be thankful that at least the washing machine broke down on black Friday so I could get a deal. I hope people are accepting kisses for Christmas this year.

Dress Up

Ok, I admit it. I have succumbed to the cuteness of dressing up my kid. I love to put him in silly hats and sometimes ridiculous clothing. I'm not sure why, but man is dress up fun. A recent trip to the eye doctor was no different. My mom was trying to get my assistance in picking out glasses. I on the other hand was entertaining myself by putting the child glasses on Leyton. He just looks so dang cute and he is so easy going that he simply doesn't care. He picked out a lovely pair of Coach glasses to give him that sophisticated librarian look. Then it was the Bolle's for the sporty look when he has the top down on his stroller.

Small Business Saturday Success!

Today my mom and I made a couple trips to support Small Business Saturday. Even if they didn't take American Express it was important to me to support the small local business. Our first stop was one of my favorite purse stores Finders Keepers. Barbara has some of the most amazing handbags and jewelry. She recently added a baby boutique to her store and they carry the only socks that stay on Leyton's feet, Me In Mind. I bought him some new socks and his Grandma got him the most adorable hat! We're working on a pattern for this hat so we can make more and perhaps sell them or give them as gifts!

Our next stop was to Never Felt Better Vegan Shop. Jen has great vegan and animal friendly products, and even if you eat meat like can't beat the handmade items. I walked away with a great owl scarf thanks to my mom and American Express!!We finished up the day by heading downstairs to Sugar Plum Vegan for a delicious Whoppie Pie!

To sum it up Small Business Saturday was a huge and delicious success!!

Thrity Find

I've always wanted a vintage plastic Santa to put on the front porch for Christmas. I look for one whenever I am at the thrift store but never have much luck. Either they are too scary, too faded or just plain ugly. While I didn't have any luck I did have luck finding a Snowman!! He was $9.99 and when I tested him in the store...he didn't work. I knew this might just be the bulb so I took my chances and took him home. I put a new bulb in him...still didn't work! My mom then realized that the plug had a fuse and the hubby verified that the fuse was burnt off. So, after three trips to three different stores I had a fuse in hand and voila!Working Snowman! Right now he is in the corner inside our house but once we put our Christmas lights up he will proudly sit on the front porch. He looks small in this picture, but he's just over 3 feet tall...not a bad deal!

Small Business Saturday

It's coming, I can feel it breathing down my neck like a smelly breathed dragon. This year I feel totally unprepared. I feel like I should be excited since I have a child to share it with...the truth of the matter is though, I am not. Yes Christmas, I am talking about you. Maybe it's because we aren't going anywhere for the holidays. Maybe it's because I typically have made a lot of gifts already and right now have nothing. Maybe it's because I don't even have any ideas of what to get people. Maybe it's because Leyton is young and my fear is that he is going to eat ornaments off the tree. Who knows really. All I know is it's coming and I can't get excited about it yet.

Then there is black Friday, which for me is made even blacker by the fact that I spend it looking at the inside of my eyelids instead of shopping at 3am. I tried it once, it was fun, but I never felt a strong need to go again. Plus, a couple years ago I started doing everything I could to support the handmade community and I started making or buying handmade. The first year it was about 50/50....last year it was about 80/20. Could I possibly make it to 100% this year?? I don't know, but I'm going to try.

So instead of Black Friday, I would rather participate in Small Business Saturday! American Express has started this event to encourage people to promote small businesses since it creates local jobs and more money goes back to the community. I'm not a big fan of American Express but I have to admit I love this idea. There are so many great small businesses now in Sacramento, many of which even sell handmade items. I plan on getting out there on Saturday to buy at least one thing to mark off my Christmas list! Otherwise I will never hit my 100% you think I can make it???

You too can join the Small Business Saturday movement by checking out the Facebook page! I was in no way paid or compensated by American Express, I just believe in shopping local and give them kudos for putting this together.

A knitting redo!

My mom brought some gloves with her that she found for 50 cents, in Florida. My guess is that gloves aren't in high demand over there! They were handmade and very cute in a mismash way, but they were a little bit short. She asked if I could make them longer. So, I added about two inches of length to them, then stitched a couple mismatched buttons on the wrists and a button so you could fold back the mitten portion when it isn't in use. Also props to the person that made these because while you can't see it in the picture...they made the thumb a hole so you can stick your thumb out when you need it for texting and such! They are still a total mismash pair of gloves, but much cuter and more wearable now! Great thrift store find turned into something useful!

Bed Head

Seeing Leyton's hair change has been pretty funny. When he was born he had a ton of hair, but it was way back on his was also a curly afro when it was wet. As he got older the hair in the front grew in and his overall head thickened up. With the original hairs that were left he ended up with a slight mullet and rat tail in the back. I gave him a little trim and now he has a mix of longer hairs that grew in at the beginning and these short flat top length hairs that are just growing in. Needless to say, he can wake up with quite the bed head these days!!

Oh my!

You know the holidays are right around the corner when you have had a couple slices of pie! Pie is probably one of my most favorite desserts. Ever since I found the recipe for the Pioneer Woman Pie Crust I have been in love with making pies. This is seriously the best crust I have ever tasted and I almost always have a disk in the freezer!

This year I made a gorgeous and yummy apple pie to start the season off. The crust came out so perfect I was almost sad I made a crumble topping instead of a crust topping. Instead, I used the second crust to make the Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie that was featured on Tasty Kitchen by She's Wears Many Hats recently. I'd love to show you a picture of that, but it's gone. Obviously it was delicious!!

Shrimp Island

Tonight was our annual turkey party! We weren't sure we were going to have it this year with Leyton but since my Mom was there we figured we'd have those extra set of hands needed to pull it off. Instead we just kept it on the small side and I have to say it was lovely! The food of course was delicious, only made better by the company.

I can't talk about the night though without highlighting an award winning appetizer!! Our friend Chris or "G" as we call him is always in charge of bringing salami rolls. This year he wanted to bring salami rolls, but also bring something new. As he was assembling his appetizer in the kitchen I was in stitches because seriously the guy has turned into the male Martha Stewart.

I introduce to you.....Shrimp Island.
