Carving Complete!

I absolutely love carving pumpkins. Just another one of those things I like about Halloween. Last night I got my pumpkins ready, and picked out a couple images I liked. The first one was the face of The Pumpkin King from "The Nightmare Before Christmas." It turned out to be really easy and I'm happy with his funny face. The second was I was going to carve Animal from "The Muppets." Unfortunately my pumpkin was too small and no matter how many times I tried to draw him it didn't come out. While I do look for images, I always freehand! When Animal wasn't going to work out I used a pair of salt and pepper shakers for inspiration and drew an owl.The best part, when it was all done, I made some pumpkin seeds!

Hungry Hungry Hippo

I'm hungry. In fact, I feel like I'm starving. Problem: not much I can eat! Even though it's not until tomorrow we'll just go ahead and tie this in with the 13 week update. I'm not feeling any better. Actually, I'm barfing now. Sorry, it's out there and we won't bring it up again. Due to this, there aren't many foods that don't make this happen. I have six for sure items that are ok: potatoes, bagels, rice, beans, plain pasta and edamame...oh and club soda. I'd say let's have a little Top Chef challenge and see who can give me the best recipe using those items...but we all know Gary would just win anyway! Plus he's a veggie too so he'd kick your butt seeing how there is no meat in there.

I daydream of eating a full meal. Eating some fruit and vegetables. It just seems so divine and foreign. Speaking of food, the baby is now the size of a medium shrimp. Wasn't it a lime last week? Is it getting smaller? Apparently they must have been talking about a key lime! I'm not showing yet, but can feel the lump there when I lay on my stomach. I'm actually down about 18lbs at this point so all my clothes fit alot better. I'll be in a bikini by the time this baby is born..ha!

The other funny side effect...which is what I think pregnancy symptoms should be called..side effects. Before you get pregnant you should have to read one of those big lists that says Pregnancy May Cause: bloating, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, etc. Anyway, dreams. Oh boy do I dream like CRAZY. Totally irrational ridiculous dreams. Dreams where Bruce Willis, all decked out in Die Hard attire, is taking my co-worker's granddaughter for a walk because she only likes men. It's one thing I look forward to because each night falling asleep is like getting in line for a movie! I just miss the popcorn.

More knitting...

I have a lot of knitting on my to do list right now. There is stuff for fun, stuff for friends and stuff for Christmas. I'm trying to alternate between one item for Christmas and one of the other items so I don't end up with tons of stuff to do the week before Christmas! Unfortunately, I can't show you any of the Christmas items as I don't want to ruin any surprises. So, instead I will show you these simple hand warmers that I made following the RVA tutorial. These were super simple. I modified the pattern a little bit, making it shorter and adding a thumb hole. Next time I'll use a little bit smaller needles but these definitely do the trick and keep you warm while still being cozy.

That said, it's time to announce the winner of the Baby Ball naming contest! There wasn't one name that stood out so I just put all the entries (on the blog and Facebook) in a hat and drew a name out. It's a name you are familiar with because this guy is lucky! That said...the winner is.....Gary! Can you believe it? When I'm rich and famous Gary is going to have quite a collection of my items. So Gary, you win the hand warmers for your lovely wife and a studette (the man scarf) for yourself. Perfect for your chilly winters!!

Rocking Out!

I got the first baby gift last week! Well, it's not quite in my possession yet, but it is on it's way. Through the many blogs that I read I have seen the Eames Molded Rocker and loved it. It is waaaaay out of my price range though. Recently thanks to SmonkYou Blog, I found a knock off. One that is in the price range! My lovely mom purchased this for us as a congrats for making it 12 weeks and giving me a grand baby gift. Thanks mom, I can't wait to rock out in it!!

Ohh Wii!

Recently we purchased the Wii Sports Resort. I was a little skeptical at first because we never really played the Wii Sports to begin with. The resort comes with a "Wii Motion Plus" that plugs into your existing remote giving it more sensitivity. Oh my gosh I love this game. The hubby is really hooked on table tennis and golf. I myself like the Island Flyover where I just fly a plane aimlessly over the island looking for scenic spots. It's a ridiculous way to kill some time!

12 Weeks!

It's official...I've hit the 12 week mark! What does this mean? I'm not totally sure. I'm moving into my second trimester, I'm a 1/3 through the pregnancy and the baby is about this big right now.Where's the mint and rum?? I kid, I kid. There is something about hitting 12 weeks though that makes you feel better. You're through the "scary" stage. That's not to say I feel a ton better yet, but that's mostly the cold talking. The past two weeks have been tough, obviously if you've read some of my last posts. Sorry I was such a downer! I'm very very happy about one thing though. See one other thing that was going on was I had this awful sour and bitter taste in my mouth almost all the time. It made eating difficult because it always got worse after food. Turns out...acid reflux. Two days of Zantac and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Thought I would give you some answers to some common questions that I have been getting already. First, we aren't going to find out what we are having. Seriously, it has to be one of the best surprises and I wouldn't miss it for the world. We don't get too many good surprises in life.

So then there is the second question, what kind of kid do I want it to be. The obvious thing that has to be said is healthy. It's like you feel like if you don't say you want it to be healthy you will somehow be jinxed. That said, I want a boy. I've always wanted boys. I once heard someone tell David Letterman that he was lucky to have a boy because then you only have to worry about one penis and with a girl you have to worry about them all. Ain't that the truth?!

The annoying question, will we have more. Seriously?! Why do people ask this? I'm certain that if you ask any woman in her first trimester that has even a hint of morning sickness she will tell you no way. Right now, I'm cool with one. On the other hand, let's let this one come out before we jump to any decisions on how many more will join the party.

Names? Nothing picked out yet. Some stuff written down over the years that has to be gone over. I'm having more fun coming up with the ridiculous names right now. I mean, my last name is Ball. You can have fun with that. I'm leaning towards Havena (pronounced haaveeena) Ball. I mean look at the spelling though. How can you not be the life of a party when your name looks like Have'n A Ball!!!

So, let's have a little contest. Give me the best "Ball" name you can come up with. I'll pick the winner based on creativity and hilarity. If there are lots of good ones it will be a random draw. Winner will receive a hand-knit custom beanie to keep them warm this winter! You have till Sunday at noon to enter, can't wait to read your entries!!

Oh, you can also leave your entry on a Facebook comment if you prefer..I know I get lots of peeps that leave me comments that way.

Humidity Sucks!

On the other hand, humidifiers are great!!! Who the heck has been keeping these a secret all these years? I mean, I knew they existed but I guess I just kind of thought you only used them with babies or little kids. Needless to say yesterday I decided that I had to find something new. Something that might let me sleep through the night. I went to Target and got myself a Vick's Warm Mist Humidifier. I slept like a BABY! It was by far the most awesome thing I have ever tried when sick. When I get colds they always go to my chest so I have a feeling this humidifier is going to be worth every penny that I spent on it...which was only $30 by the way. If you are feeling ill...the humidifier is a MUST TRY!

Two Years Ago....

Today a girl was just a couple hours into her honeymoon in Cabo and got clobbered by a wave. I'm pretty certain it looked something like this..
Needless to say, that wave left her with some injuries that at some points felt like they would never heal. It would be another 166 days before she was able to take any steps without crutches, and months more to actually be able to walk, months more to actually be able to walk without a limp.

Looking back, knowing all I went through to get to the non-limping able to walk person I am now puts things into perspective. That was by far one of the most challenging and painful times of my life and makes all this pregnancy and sickness seem like a tiny little drop in a bucket. If I made it through that I can make it through anything. I am so thankful for what I have now because two years ago today, I could have seriously drowned or never walked again.

Just a little slack...

Because pregnancy symptoms weren't bad enough, life has gone ahead a handed me a big old basket of F-YOU by giving me a cold. A cold that started last Wednesday and by Friday had moved straight into my chest and grabbed hold. A cold that could have possibly been the Swine-Flu, but thankfully is not.

Do you know what happens when you are pregnant and get a cold? It makes everything suck a whole lot more! Thought you felt tired before, well now you feel more tired. Didn't have many things you could eat before, well now you will not want to eat anything. At least got pleasure in sleeping in your own bed and taking daytime naps, well now you are in the guest room and are going to wake up every hour coughing your lungs out. Thinking that maybe you can just take some NyQuil and make the whole thing go away, well you can't take a damn enjoy these cough drops.

Needless to say, not only have all symptoms gotten worse but I am now an emotional basket case that just might kill someone at any moment. Think I'm kidding? I seriously almost killed a drive through attendant that didn't give me my bean burrito. Only thing that saved her was I would have had to get back in the car and drive 15 minutes back to the restaurant and I was too flipping tired.

Strange Brew

The beer brewing has continued and we are now waiting on our third and fourth batch. Batch number one was decent and got better the longer it sat in the bottle. Batch two, well let's just say you have to fail sometimes. Terrible! While I didn't taste it the smell alone made me give it the name Molasses Madness.

I wanted to do something different for batch three. With the holidays upon us I thought it would be the perfect time to do some hard apple cider. We actually found a ridiculously easy recipe for a applewein and decided to go for it. We headed up to apple hill for some fresh juice and now we're just waiting for it to finish doing its thing. This stuff takes a bit longer, so will be ready to bottle at the beginning of November and we can crack some open at Thanksgiving. Although, it will get better the longer it sits in the bottles. I'm excited for this one, seeing how I can drink now and all!

Batch four we went back to beer and so far it looks like it might have a super high alcohol content! That could spell trouble!

Week 10

So, blogging every day is probably not going to happen. I have a feeling it's going to come and go depending on how I'm feeling and what I've been up to. When I haven't been up to alot...then no bloggy. It's funny how when you become a daily blogger there is this general feeling that you are letting your blog readers down if you don't post something everyday. I read so many blogs that don't post daily and I never think they are letting me down! It's just funny how that happens.

Another thing I've decided is I don't want to turn Pillsplace into a baby blog. This blog has always been about everything. Some of it personal, some of it random, some of it ridiculous. I plan on keeping it that way. Granted, I'm having a baby so I'm sure there is going to be alot to say about that but for now I'm thinking just a once a week update will suffice.

I'm 10 weeks. This is definitely an experience. Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't. I think that's natural and I'm not afraid to admit it. I think many times women candy coat what they went through during their pregnancy. I say this cause as soon as you are pregnant the real stories start coming out! I've really always wanted to be pregnant. Now, don't get me wrong, I wasn't one of those kids that was aiming to be on a tv show entitled "My Young Daughter Is About To Be A Mother." I guess what I'm saying is not only did I want to have a baby...I just wanted to be pregnant. I've always been drawn to pregnant women, and yes...I'm one of those that will try to touch your tummy. But, I will always ask!

Here is what the past 10 weeks have felt like.

Weeks 4-5 Discovered I was knocked up. Had to pee every single hour. Ate normal.

Weeks 6-7 Suddenly hoped on the tilt a whirl and found myself nauseous almost all day every day. Tried ever ginger product on the market, realized I hate ginger. Wore anti-nausea wrist bands which worked until I wore them too much. Ate white things: white rice, bread, bagels. Lost 9 pounds.

Week 8 Started feeling a little bit better, able to eat a big more. HATE things that are the color green. Get salad in whenever I can cause it's the only green I can take. Hate milk, hate handling meat, hate people that wear perfume, hate the air freshener in the work bathroom and want to rip it off the wall and stomp on it until it dies.

Week 9-10 See "Week 8". Can put milk in cereal now. Still want to kill the air freshener. I would rather smell a crappy toilet than country potpourri...just saying! Tired ALL THE TIME. Never feel rested. Fall asleep within 5 minutes of shutting my eyes. Wake up to pee EVERY night at 4am, fall promptly back asleep. Can take a 3 hour nap and go to bed two hours later. Don't like eating sweets, only exception is frozen yogurt and rainbow sherbet. Lost another 4 pounds. Doctor has assured this is normal and everything is fine.

Thinking I should wear this for Halloween.Certain to get hit on a ton while wearing it. Especially if I wear it with fishnets.

Tis the season!

I really love Halloween. It's by far my favorite holiday. I'm not sure why, but I just love everything about it. The pumpkins, the costumes, the decorations, the candy. It just goes on and on. I wish it was more of a family holiday like Christmas....just without the gifts!

Since I was feeling pretty good this weekend I decided to break out the Halloween decorations and get in the spirit. I went pretty simple, and had some great treasures that I bought at Target on clearance. They always have great decorations, but it's impossible for me to pay full price for them. I started with the dining room table. Then I decided it wouldn't be complete if I didn't do a chalkboard drawing, which I haven't done in FOREVER! Since vampires are the new black, I went with a vampy theme. The hubby thought the lips were hilarious. I think they look just like mine! Even Whisky got into the decorations and quickly snuggled up with the pumpkin pillow on his chair. I think it looks funny like it's biting his butt!

Everything is better with pie!

One of the first things I did on a day when I didn't feel like I had just stepped off the tilt o' whirl (or hurl) was bake a pie. The hubby and I went to apple hill so he could buy some fresh juice for making a hard cider...more on that later. I picked up some apples knowing that one day I would make a pie. A couple days later I busted out the Pioneer Woman crust recipe and threw this beauty together!
Unfortunately I haven't been able to eat too much of it, but boy was it pretty to look at!

Now with a guest blogger!

After just shy of a month break I have decided to come back to the blogging action. See the problem was, I had a secret. A secret that I didn't want to tell for a while and a secret that seemed to be eating me up inside to the point of making me sick. So sick that I didn't want to leave the house, or do much more than sleep. Now, I'm ready to let the cat out of the bag.

I'm a little nervous, so I've decided to bring a guest blogger in to share the information with you. I'll let them introduce themself:

Name: Baby Seahorse
Age: Almost 10 weeks
Occupation: Inducing sleep and nausea
