The new building that I work in has an elevator. Obviously I use it because I work on the 6th floor and I don't do stairs. This is the most that I have had to use an elevator and it's such a unique experience. I know, going up and doing doesn't sound very unique! The reason is...people do not talk! I would say about 90% of those that get in the elevator are tinkering with some sort of electronic device in order to avoid contact. I always smile or say hello and at times I get looked at like I'm something from another planet. Is everyone just afraid to ride in elevators? Is physical contact really that scary now?
