Just keep adding it on!

I was finally able to get into a Dr. in the United States today to check out my knee injury from Mexico. It's still not certain what is wrong and won't be known until I get an MRI done. The Dr. thinks that I either strained or tore my ACL. I'm hoping for a strain which will mean no surgery! Keep your fingers crossed for me, I need all the luck I can get at this point!!!

An unfortunate post....

Sadly today was the last day of our little Louie's life. The cancer got the best of him while we were gone and we couldn't watch him suffer. All is better now and we know that Louie is better off. It was extremely hard to let him go and even harder to be home without him. I know this is a bummer of a post to write and read so I will leave you with some of the funny Louie memories that have happened over the years to make you smile.

-Louie sitting on a large wrapped Christmas package under the tree so he could look out the window.

-Growling at Ketlers when he walked out of the tent camping and saw him rustling in his sleeping bag on a cot.

-Chasing peacocks at the patch.

-Gazing at the Christmas Tree lights.

-Ripping open tubes of tennis balls, and being able to pop a new ball in a matter of minutes.

-Walking up and down the lawn with Bill while he mows the lawn.

-Trying to get the water to stop on a sprinkler by sticking his face in it.

-Sleeping in the trunk of the car with his head in the coffee filters.

-Bobbing around in Donner Lake with his life preserver on.

-Clawing down every snowman that I tried to make.

-ALWAYS walking in the pumpkin guts and wrapping paper at Halloween and Christmas.

-Jumping in the air for popcorn.

-Licking his chops when he got bites of my bean burrito!

Halloween Candy!!!

It's that time of year again. Time to forgo looking good in a bathing suit to eating Halloween candy. I just love Halloween! It's my favorite holiday and I'm always so sad that we don't get very many kids trick or treating. On the other hand I buy enough candy for 100's and then sit and nibble. It only comes once a year!!! What kind of candy will you have this year???

The honeymoon is over and overall it was a blast! Little mishap at first, but didn't keep us from having a good time. We both got some sun and are by far the tannest in Sacramento! It's hard to come back to reality, but we have alot of good memories from the trip. You can see all the pictures on Flickr.

Squid Roe

When you are going to Cabo you know that the two questions will be....

Did you have some tequila at Cabo Wabo?
Did you go to Squid Roe?

The answer my friend is yes, and yes! I'm not a tequila fan, but I must say that the Cabo Wabo Reposado is delicious. I definitely could have had more, but being on crutches I was taking it easy. The streets are not nicely paved in Cabo so I needed as many brain cells as I could get. We also made it into Squid Roe. It's basically a big afterhours scene, nightclub with restaurant (Billy Kitchen!) We were there early evening and it was still crazy. There is a ton of staff on hand doing dances, blowing whistles, harrassing you and making people do upside down tequila shots. I stuck with a yard stick of Pina Coladas and a cozy table to observe from!

Elvis in Cabo!

While we were on the beach one day Bill pointed out a guy that looked like Elvis. Turns out, it was Elvis. Our hotel had a Vegas themed evening and Elvis did a little performance. It had to be the cheesiest thing I've ever seen. I had to capture it on video. Unfortunately it came out sideways, but you will still enjoy it....I promise!!

Fun with the camera!

We finally ventured down to the beach today. It's not the easiest thing to do on crutches but we needed a little break from the non-stop action at the pool. Since we're at a resort there are set activities at set times. This is fine, but a couple days in you start to feel like you are stuck in the film "Groundhog Day" and can't quit reliving the same day over and over.

It's gorgeous on the beach, especially now that the YELLOW flag is out (which means A.O.K.) Every day there are these massive cruise ships in the water outside of the hotel. They come in during the night and then depart during the day. The really look like giant prisons on the water, but to each their own! One of the most impressive things is watching them turn in the water. Considering how massive they are it is one of the most graceful things I have ever seen. I played a bit with the stitching option on my camera and captured one in three different positions. This all happened in less than a minute. Impressive!

Funny things in Mexico!

I love all the little differences in Mexico. You'll buy something that you are used to getting in the US only all the writing will be in Spanish. At home when you get Pacifico it's always in a bottle, but here it's almost always in a can. One of my favorites is the diet soda. Nothing is marked "diet." Instead everything is given the label of "light." I like this more than the term diet and think that it's something that we should start adopting in the US.

All inclusive is all awesome!

Lucky for us we decided to do our first three days of the trip all inclusive. What does this mean? It means you lay by the pool all day eating and drinking to your hearts delight! It means bucket after bucket of pacificos! It means that I will gain at least 10lbs in the next 3 days!

Uh Oh!!!

We arrived safely in Cabo yesterday! Checked into our lovely room, changed into our lovely swimwear and then walked down to the lovely beach. Did we notice the red flag waving in the wind by the entrance to the beach?! What red flag? The waves were crashing in so beautifully that I just had to go and get my feet wet. All started out well, and then the big waves came in! Little did I know red flag meant, DON'T GET IN THE WATER! Needless to say, one day into the honeymoon and what started looking like this....

Now looks like this.....

Not sure what is wrong with it. Think that something in the knee is torn, but I'll have to deal with that when I get back home. For now I'm just going to figure out how to get around Cabo with a knee brace and muletas!

Viva la Villa!!!!

Today Bill and I get on a plane for our lovely honeymoon! It's going to be a much needed break and rest to say that least. We'll be in Cabo at the Villa del Palmar from Saturday to Saturday enjoying the sun, margaritas, fun, margaritas, shopping and perhaps a couple margaritas! I won't be able to post while I'm there so hope you all have a wonderful vacation from Pillsplace. It will be back up and at em as soon as I get home....I'm sure there will be much to share!!

Thanks again to Carol and Mark Baker for their graciousness giving us their time share! We owe all our fun, relaxation and margaritas to you!!

A sad, sad day.................

We took Louie to a specialist this week and unfortunately today were not given good news. Louie has cancer. It's an aggressive form of cancer that is attacking his lymp nodes. Based on what the vet is saying he has about 6-8 weeks to live. He won't be in pain but will slowly start to go. Bill and I both were really trying to prepare for this, but I don't think you ever can. We just have to keep thinking what a good life he had. Bulldogs typically live 8-10 years so Louie will be comfortably in the middle of that. I hope everyone out there that knows Louie will think of some funny memory that you have of him instead of shedding a tear! Thanks to everyone for all their well wishes!

Lovely Drives

I have to go up to the Placerville area for work and I must say that it is one of my favorite locations. I could move up there in a second! It's away from things, but close enough to not go crazy. Plus, it is beautiful! Sometimes I even get lost on some of the "backroads" but I never really care because they are always pretty drives and at this time of year the trees are starting to change.....

Ahhhh, I love fall!

Which will you celebrate?

It's that time again! Time for another National ........... Day? What is it you might ask? Well, lucky for you there are two options! Wouldn't want to restrain your choices. Just be sure to give it some serious thought. You don't want to be hasty when deciding which one to celebrate.
So, your options are........

National Dried Prunes Day

National Pasta Day

I myself am trying to come up with a way to combine them both since I am soo excited!

Louie Update

Thought it was time to give everyone a little Louie update. He's now been on his meds one day shy of a week and things seem to be getting worse. The udders have increased and he also now has a turkey gobbler neck and his legs are almost double in size. It is only doing this on the front half of his body so he's really starting to look like a big meaty bulldog. I took him back to the vet and they did blood work to see if they could find anything...no luck. This is actually a good thing because it sounds like the things they could have found would have been bad. He now has an appointment tomorrow with a specialist, which just sounds expensive. Hopefully they figure this out! The picture here is him now all big and swollen. Those who have seen Louie before will notice and those who haven't probably won't. You can really see it in the size of his front legs in this picture. Poor little Louie!

Riding in style!

One of the other little highlights of the wedding was the limo that we rode in to and from. It's called Sacramento Racing Limos and you got it...it's painted like a race car. What is even more interesting is it just so happens to be painted with the number 13! Couldn't be more perfect than that!

Wedding Day!

Woke up this morning and the weather......beautiful! Spent time with the bridesmaids getting ready and getting our hair done.....beautiful! And that is just how the day started!

Our wedding day was fantastic! The location was amazing and having all of our family and friends there was EPIC. Everything went perfect, not one hitch in site....well, except for not remembering which finger to put Bill's ring on! I am so so happy that I stuck to the vision of what I wanted my wedding to be. As casual and unique as it seemed it could not have been more perfect for the two of us. I think everyone had an amazing time, and I 100% know that we did. It's nice to actually say that I remember every little thing and it wasn't all a hectic blur.
So now, I'm officially a Ball! It feels good and was soo worth the wait. Stay tuned for pictures, it felt like the paparazzi was there so I'm sure there is going to be a ton!

Set up and ready to go!!

Today the barn got all set up for the wedding. I have to say that it came out PERFECT! I feel like it's exactly what I was picturing in my head and I couldn't be happier. It rained ALL DAY, much more than it was saying it would. I'm really hoping that this means there will be no rain tomorrow, fingers crossed.
We also had our family dinner tonight. We didn't do a rehearsal dinner because, well, we really didn't need to rehearse and the group was super big. It was nice having all the family together since our families haven't really spent that much time together. Surprising considering we've been together 9 years! Bill's parents through the party for us and it was fantastic. The food was delicious and the cake too. As you can tell, Bill and the kids really enjoyed it!

Mom is here!

My mom arrived today for the wedding. Almost all of the out of town guests are all rolling in today, which just makes it feel so much more real. Only a couple days away!!

Mind Eraser

Last night Bill and I joined Weava and Ketlers at Sophia's for a couple drinks. At Sophia's they have a big wheel and when it's your birthday you can spin the wheel and get a free drink. The wheel has a bunch of numbers on it and whatever number you land on is what drink you get. Ketlers convinced the bartender that since Bill and I were getting married we should get to spin the wheel...which we did. Our number was the Mind Eraser and it was delicious! Here is the recipe if you ever want to erase your mind, which who doesn't really?!

Fill tall glass with ice.

1 oz Vodka

1 oz Coffee Liqueur

Top with soda water.

Do not mix! Supposed to be drunk through a straw in one shot.

Sad sack...

Louie is not doing so hot again. A couple weeks ago he fell out of the truck while trying to jump in. Note to self: No more dog jumping in truck. Back to the story....afterwards he was a little sore for a day but then was right back to his normal self. This past Saturday Bill noticed a lump in Louie's right armpit. I poked around at it to see if he was something that hurt him and he didn't seem to mind. A couple hours later I noticed that Louie was growing an udder. Yes, you read that right UDDER! He seemed to have liquid accumulating under the skin. We got him into the vet today and the Dr. thinks that he has an infection due to trauma to the shoulder. He now has two udders and a hard mass along his body which is apparently his mamorie glands swelling. Now, keep in mind that mamorie glands typically don't swell in male dogs only females. If you remember a couple weeks ago to the bladder infection post you may remember that male dogs don't typically get bladder infections either. Needless to say Louie is now on bedrest and I'm reading him "Middlesex." This unfortunately means that Louie won't be in the wedding! So sad!

NaBloPoMo Baby

For the month of November I have accepted the challenge to post on my blog everyday. I know that it seems like I do that, but sometimes I cheat and post for days that I've missed. To stick with the NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) rules I have to actually post on it each day. What that means for you? A bunch of random and worthless stuff for you to read in the month of November!!! Woooohoooo!

First arrival!

The first arrival for the wedding is here. John and Hayden (Codger) arrived yesterday! It's fun to have family rolling in and there's even more to come this week. Codger is the son of Bill's twin sister Katie (and her husband John.) I really see him as a "Little Bill." He looks a bit like Bill as a tike and has a personality to match. To imagine that poor Katie had to grow up with her crazy brother, and now has a little boy to remind her!

One week!

It's now just one week until the wedding day. This makes it my last weekend as a Severson. I'm really looking forward to changing my name, although this probably won't happen until November. Due to Doc Severinsen and the word sever people have always pronounced my last name wrong. I thought perhaps things would get better with "Growing Pains" and the Seavers, but they got lucky with the a in their spelling so it was no luck for me. So now I will be a Ball! Simple, four letters and one syllable. Perfect!

Damn, Damn, Damn!!!

Since the wedding date was picked back in January it was thought that October would be the PERFECT month for a wedding. It is usually beautiful weather in October, low 80's during the day, upper 50's at night and RARELY does it rain. That is, until now! It's already rained some, including the day of my bachelorette party. Today the 10 day forecast that includes the wedding day is finally available. It reads like this:

Thursday the 11th: Sunny

Friday the 12th: Sunny

Saturday the 13th: Scattered Thunder Storms?!

What the?! I guess this happens all the time, but it does suck. We do have the ability to be inside, but I sure would love it to be outside as well. Guess everyone should break out their rain boots and umbrellas just in case!

Help with a name....

I need your help again blog readers! I'm going to be putting the vintage buttons rings that I've been making up for sale online soon but I need a good business name. Help me!! I thought "Who's got the button?" would be cute but might be a bit too wordy. Let me know if you think of a good name!!

Happy National Vegetarian Day!!

Today is National Vegetarian Day! Although I love meat, and couldn't give it up, I also love myself some vegetarian dishes as well. Here's one of my favorites that you can make and enjoy yourself:

1/2 cup diced yellow bell pepper
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
1 jalapeno, seed and diced
2 Tbsp olive oil
3-4 Tbsp lime juice
1/2 cups diced red bell pepper
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cumin
1 cup uncooked couscous
1-15oz can black beans, rinsed
1 cup corn
1/2 cup diced red onion

In a medium saucepan combine salt, cumin and 1.5 cups of water. Boil, add couscous, stir and return to boil. Reduce to low and simmer for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and fluff with fork. Let stand 5 minutes, fluff again. Combine all ingredients and serve!!
